Tour 2020 (Amsterdam, The Netherlands)

In 2020 Isis Cricket Club will once again go international, with a mini tour to Amsterdam. 23rd to 26th July 2020.  We will travel out from St Pancras International (we need to be there 60 mins before departure to clear passport control) and arrive in the heart of Amsterdam in less then 4 hours.  In the departure lounge at St Pancras we'll find shops to buy refreshments for the journey as well as newspapers and magazines.

Once in Amsterdam, we will take a 10-minute journey (again by train) to Sloterdijk which lies about 3 km northwest of the city centre (the city centre is therefore still in easy reach, while hotel costs are significantly cheaper).  Subject to booking, we intend to stay at The Park Inn by Radisson, a 2-minute walk from Sloterdijk station.  Decorated by world-renowned designer Karim Rashid, the Park Inn by Radisson Amsterdam City West offers ideal accommodation with excellent transport options; there are direct connections to Schiphol Airport and Amsterdam Central Station from Sloterdijk.  Again, there are convenience stores and bars in and around Sloterdijk, although I am sure we will spend most of our social time in the city centre.

During our stay we will play matches on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th July against Amsterdamsche (near Amstelveen) and Bloemendaal Village (near Haarlem).  We will travel to both matches by train, and we will investigate the cost and availability of train passes for use throughout our visit.  Details are still to be finalised, but both matches will include refreshments sure to be different and more lavish than we are used to at Queens.  I suspect that we will spend the late evenings in the city centre.

On Sunday 26th July we will have a leisurely morning (which may possibly include a canal tour of Amsterdam) before an early afternoon departure for London.  On the way back, we will take a Thalys train from Amsterdam Centraal to Brussels-Midi/Zuid.  Then, there's a quick change onto a direct Eurostar train from Brussels to London St Pancras International (this leg of the journey is under two hours).

Quite simply, its going to be great.  We have estimated the total cost of the trip to be around £350, plus spending money. Subject to approval the club will sponsor contributions to ground hire for the matches.  In order to enable us to book transport and accommodation as early as possible, we are collecting a deposit of £100 to assess the number of people interested and willing to commit.  Places will be limited, so please secure your place early to avoid disappointment. Payments should be made direct into the Isis Cricket Club account - Sort Code: 30-96-35, Account number: 01666758. Please contact Keith Whiter if you would like to set up a monthly direct debit of £50 or more to cover your tour fees - any excess you pay in this way will be returned to you as spending money on tour.
